Minister of Infrastructure Tours Elgin Barrow Arena
On March 8, 2011 Town staff provided the Honourable Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Infrastructure, and Reza Moridi, MPP-Richmond Hill, with a guided tour of the newly renovated Elgin Barrow Arena. With Provincial and Federal assistance from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, the Elgin Barrow Arena improvements, totalling $4.7 million, include increased accessibility, new lobby doors, new flooring, gender appropriate dressing rooms and washrooms, structural upgrades (including the roof and exterior cladding) and energy efficiencies (including the addition of solar heat for water, lighting, insulation and equipment). Enhancements were also made to the community meeting rooms. One of 13 grant-funded infrastructure projects, totalling upwards of $29 million, the rehabilition of aging infrastructure like the Elgin Barrow Arena help Richmond Hill to provide much needed space and opportunities for a growing and diverse community.
